According to the vision of the Putumayo organization, indigenous peoples have the right to self-determination. Following that right, they should determine freely the priorities concerning their economic, social and cultural development, and concerning the way in which their natural resources are managed.
The mission of the Putumayo organization is to strengthen the capacity and the organization of the indigenous peoples of the Putumayo region,
- so that they can shape their community life and their development independently, in line with their own priorities, and
- so that they can manage the natural resources on their territories independently and sustainably, aiming to protect the biodiversity of the Amazon region.
That is why the Putumayo association supports proposals and initiatives from the local indigenous peoples, putting their opinions first.
